On 12th February 2025, students from the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Architectural and Urban Contemporary Heritage (ARURCOHE) visited the San Pedro neighborhood in the Rochapea district, recently renovated by Pamplona City Council under the oPEN Lab project.
This Master’s degree, jointly delivered by UPV/EHU (coordinating institution), KTU (Kaunas University of Technology), and POLITO (Politecnico di Torino), aims to provide high-level qualifications for future professionals and researchers in the fields of protection, conservation, and reuse of 20th-century urban and built heritage. Through the visit to Rochapea, the goal was to present students with an example of the deep energy renovation of two apartment buildings dating from 1948. The renovation includes a high level of innovation and the implementation of new technologies as the prefabricated solution for interior wall cladding featuring vacuum insulation panels, roof-integrated photovoltaics, heat pumps, and an advanced energy management system to explore operational strategies to achieve an annual positive energy balance.
The visit allowed the group to gain first-hand insight into all previously mentioned technologies and the concept of Positive Energy Neighborhoods that is the core of the oPEN Lab project.
