On September 24, 2024, Victoria Taranu (BPIE) from oPEN Lab joined other key projects, including 2ISECAP, LIFE-BECKON, SWEET Lantern, and ENoLL’s Energy & Environment Working Group, in hosting a day-long event titled “Energizing Tomorrow: Innovative Collaboration Models for Climate and Energy Transition.” The event gathered stakeholders from across Europe to discuss collaborative strategies for accelerating energy transition models.
Key takeaways emphasized the necessity of cross-sector collaboration among local authorities, private enterprises, researchers, and communities. This collective approach was shown to be essential for scalable, sustainable energy models that can be adapted and implemented in varied urban settings across Europe. However, participants highlighted ongoing legislative and financial challenges, such as fragmented governance and complex regulations that hinder progress. Solutions discussed included the need for clearer financial frameworks and public-private partnerships to address financing barriers, particularly for resource-limited communities.
The event also underscored the social impact of energy transitions, with projects like Positive Energy Neighborhoods (PENs) and Energy Communities working to combat energy poverty and promote equitable energy access. The public’s role was noted as a powerful catalyst for change, demonstrating that grassroots pressure can drive policy reform to support more sustainable and inclusive energy models.
In closing, the session stressed the importance of developing scalable and replicable energy transition models. Success hinges on building adaptable frameworks with legislative, financial, and stakeholder support to ensure these solutions thrive across Europe.
