On July 4th 2024, BPIE (Buildings Performance Institute Europe) hosted a distinguished delegation from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, including Ms. Joo-young Lee, Head of the Eco-Friendly Building Division, and Mr. Gyeong-seok Oh, Manager. The delegation engaged in a comprehensive discussion on the European Union’s building policies, with a focus on the EPBD recast (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive) and the EU taxonomy.
Dr. Victoria Taranu, hosting on behalf of BPIE, facilitated the visit, highlighting the concept of Positive Energy Neighbourhoods (PEN) and the Multiple Benefits (MBx) tool, which quantifies the advantages of PENs. The delegation was particularly interested in these innovative approaches, which align with Seoul’s sustainability goals.
Pieter Bosmans provided an update on the Genk oPEN Living Lab showcasing the latest developments. Additionally, he introduced VITO’s newly developed software for policy scenario analysis.
The meeting facilitated a valuable exchange of knowledge and best practices between the EU and Seoul, fostering international collaboration in advancing sustainable building practices.
